New-look Academy ready for kick-off

The Worcester Warriors Academy is gearing up for the new season as the young guns as Sixways look to develop their skills and fire their claims for first team honours.

The players from the Warriors Academy will once again be looking to impress in the Aviva A League – under the name of Worcester Cavaliers – and start competitive action on Monday, September 5 with an away friendly against Exeter Chiefs.

The new Gold Academy squad for the 2011/12 season is: Sam Atkin, George Bee, Tom Carlisle, James Clutterbuck, Nile Dacres, Joel Dudley, James Freeman, Ryan Furniss, Charlie Hayter, Tom Leach, Sean McCarthy, Sam Miller, Rhys Morgan, Louis Padian, Mike Penn, Will Radburn, James Whybrow, Rob Wood, Barney Woods and James Currie.

New players in the squad include Tom Carlisle, younger brother of first team start and former Academy product Joe Carlisle, and Scotland Under-20 international Sam Atkin who will combine his rugby with studies at the University of Worcester.

A number of players will play at clubs outside the Aviva Premiership to gain valuable experience. Charlie Hayter and Mike Penn (Nottingham), Will Radburn, Louis Padian and Sean McCarthy (Bees), James Currie, Joel Dudley and Nile Dacres (Stourbridge), Tom Leach and George Bee (Bromsgrove).

Among the players to leave the Academy ranks after last season was Earl Collins. The winger, who was in recovery from a serious neck injury sustained playing for the club in March 2010, has opted to end his rugby career and focus on his academic studies.

Earl and his family would like to thank all of the supporters, staff, players and well-wishers who supported them through the injury and especially those who attended the benefit night which took place last October. Earl has thoroughly enjoyed his years at Sixways.

Everyone connected with Worcester Warriors would like to wish Earl and his family every success for the future.
