Boss focus on Saints game to turn tide

Head Coach Richard Hill acknowledged his Worcester Warriors need to kick-start the club’s Aviva Premiership season when they face Northampton Saints at Sixways on Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm).

Worcester suffered late heartache against league leaders Harlequins on Saturday as two tries in the final 20 minutes saw the visitors snatch a tense victory.

Hill has warned his squad to prepare for a difficult week in preparation for the visit of the Saints in front of the ESPN cameras.

“The coaching staff has got a bit of backside kicking to do on Monday because that was not acceptable and not good enough. The effort was there, but the execution was poor. We are a better side than that,” he said.

“If we were talking about players who weren’t capable of doing it then far enough, but these players are good enough to look after the ball for a few phases.

“The loss makes it difficult all round, for players and coaching staff to lift themselves, but we will have to have it out on Monday and then on Tuesday get right back into it. Next Friday is now even more crucial to win.”

And Hill also urged the Sixways faithful to crank up the volume and play their part in generating a special atmosphere at the end of the week.

“Let’s create s superb atmosphere under the lights,” he added. “We have got to use that game to kick-start our season. We have got to make sure we win that one.”
