Experience beneficial for young Warriors

Forwards Coach Phil Davies believes the experience of playing Bath’s World Cup stars will only benefit the young guns at Warriors.

Worcester suffered a 46-13 defeat at The Rec but can take heart from a performance full of heart.

Bath opted to hand their returning aces from New Zealand a first game with Francois Louw, Anthony Perenise, Matt Banahan, Lee Mears, David Wilson and England skipper Lewis Moody all involved.

Worcester meanwhile handed senior call-ups to Academy prospects like Nile Dacres, Will Radburn, James Currie and Mike Penn and Davies was delighted with the manner in which they fronted up to the task.

He said: “These type of games gave the likes of George Porter, Oliver Tomaszczyk and Ollie Hayes a great experience. It is the first game at this level that Ollie Hayes has started and he is only 20 after a serious neck injury.

“Those things are very positive and the whole side came out with a lot of credit. The scoreboard was a little bit nasty to look at by the end, perhaps we didn’t deserve that with the effort and skill we showed.

“At one point Nile Dacres came on at the same time as Lewis Moody,” added Davies. “With the greatest of respect to Lewis, he has been a fantastic player, but Nile is going to be around for a long time and hopefully part of our group.

“It is a great experience when he runs on at the same time as the England captain. That is great for him. He will remember that and hopefully it will stand him in good stead.”
