Coach wants massive Friday atmosphere

Coach Phil Davies has called on the Sixways faithful to create another fantastic atmosphere under the floodlights when the Warriors return to Aviva Premiership this Friday night against London Wasps (kick-off 7.45pm).

After two weeks in LV= Cup action, Worcester face massive back-to-back Friday night games against Wasps at Sixways before an away day at Newcastle Falcons.

Davies acknowledges Worcester will need to raise their performance to make a successful return to top-flight action.

And he has urged the fans at Warriors – who he believes are some of the best he has ever witnessed in his rugby career – to once again play a big role and crank up the noise levels in support of the home side.

“The greatest compliment I can pay Sixways is that it is like Stradey Park in the late 80s and early 90s — it is a fantastic place to play and the atmosphere is second to none,” he said.

“The Managing Director Charlie Little and the staff at Warriors put on a great show and the people come along and sing and chant, which is fantastic. Hopefully, we can make it a tough night for Wasps.

“The Premiership is obviously the premier competition and this week the intensity will go back up a little bit. These guys who have played in the last two weeks will be confident in their performances, while the others will have had a bit of a rest and some conditioning work, so will be fresh and add extra impetus.

“Hopefully, on Friday, we will see our performance going up a level and it needs to.”
