Scrum half Perry agrees new contract

Scrum half Shaun Perry has pledged his future to Worcester Warriors after signing a new contract extension to remain at Sixways.

Former England international Perry has been in outstanding form for the Warriors since making the move to the Aviva Premiership club in the summer from French outfit CA Brive.

The 33-year-old initially agreed aone-year deal with the option to extend further and that has now been activated as he has put pen to paper to remain a Warrior.

Head Coach Richard Hill said: “Shaun has come to the Warriors and very quickly made a big impression. Off the field he has brought a real enthusiasm and hunger. He hates losing and that rubs off on everybody around him.

“His performances on the field for Warriors have been first rate. He has settled very quickly into our systems and gives everything and puts his body on the line time and time again.

“In both attack and defence he has been strong and is a real threat around the fringes because he is a physical player. He also marshals the defence and pack well and doesn’t take any nonsense.

“With Shaun Perry, Jonny Arr and Ollie Frost we have some very talented scrum halves at the club and we are delighted that he has now agreed a new deal to remain at Warriors and help take the club forward.”

Vastly experienced star Perry has been capped 14 times for England, including featuring in the 2007 Rugby World Cup, and is a former England A captain.

The Wolverhampton-born back began playing rugby in the junior ranks at Dudley Kingswinford where he played seven seasons before joining Coventry. He later moved to Bristol where he featured prominently between 2005 and 2009, under the guidance of current Worcester Head Coach Hill.

Perry said: “The move has gone really well for me. When I signed for Warriors I said that this was a club I had always wanted to play for and it was always my intention to get an extension and remain at Sixways.

“I’ve loved being back in the Aviva Premiership with Warriors. I’m enjoying my rugby as much as I have ever done and we have some exciting games coming up that I am desperate to be involved in.

“The team is making progress and the fans here are simply outstanding. They have been right behind us every week, both home and away, and we all want to give them success.”
