Hill pleased by clinical Euro victory

Head Coach Richard Hill was delighted by his clinical Warriors as they thumped Bucharest Wolves 57-13 in the Amlin Challenge Cup.

Marcel Garvey (2), Nile Dacres, Chris Pennell, Aleki Lutui, Josh Drauniniu, Miles Benjamin, Jake Abbott and a penalty try saw Warriors cruise to an emphatic bonus point win.

Worcester also avoided any serious injuries to the glee of coach Hill who saw the lead at the top of the pool to leaders Stade Francais cut to four points.

“We had the bonus point wrapped up by half-time, which was good and better than we did out in Romania,” he said.

“We were a little bit sloppy in the first 15 minutes and were in their 22 five times and didn’t convert until we got that penalty try from the scrum.

“At half-time we had a little quiet word to say that when we play Leicester we have got to convert chances in the 22. I told them they needed to be more clinical without getting too irate.

“We then scored after 23 seconds of the second half so they made the point to the coaching staff that when the heads are on it they can do very well.

“We scored nine tries, one penalty try with eight others. Marcel got two and the rest were shared out so that is a good confidence booster for Leicester.

“Stade have got quite a big points difference and we have closed the gap somewhat today which is good,” he added.

“We have got Parma at home to come and we would expect to get a good win here. Stade have got to go to Bucharest in January when it is normally thick snow so there is no guarantee they are going to win or by a big margin. We can close the gap again.

“What this means is that, provided we get the five points against Parma, then we go to Paris and it is all on that, the winner will come from that game. We will take the strongest possible side out there and try and get the win.”

Hill also reported no new injury setbacks despite Scottish centre Alex Grove being forced off early.

He said: “We had a few dead legs and Alex was annoyed he picked one up in the first ten minutes. He had to come off when that is just the sort of game he would have enjoyed playing in.

“The rest was minor injuries, nothing serious so I am pleased with a good win, nine tries, bonus point and no injuries.”
