Hill delighted by big Goode reaction

Boss Richard Hill praised fly half star Andy Goode for proving his point as the former England man climbed off the bench to stun Gloucester Rugby in the 21-15 derby day win.

Goode made an impact just five minutes after coming on at the break by scoring a match-turning try and handing Warriors a lead that they never gave up.

Head Coach Hill admitted he was delighted to see the response from Goode and the intensity for the No.10 shirt at Sixways crank up a few notches.

“Goodey had a point to prove and his attitude has been superb,” said Hill. “He doesn’t want to be second choice, he has had to sit and watch Joe (Carlisle) play very well and hasn’t moaned.

“He came on the field to prove a point and that is the attitude to have. We want to see that. We have talked every week and I cannot fault him in training, “he also gets on very well with Joe.

“Goodey has been, by his own admission, below what he can do. That performance today is the sort of standard we expect from Andy Goode every week. It was made for him to come on and turn the game. He did just that with a try.

“It’s fantastic to see him react in that way. To come on when we were down at half-time and play as we know he can play. We’re grateful for him playing as well as he did, to score under the posts and kick the conversion was a fantastic start. He just grew in confidence after that.”

Hill also revealed that Goode was likely to feature in the upcoming Amlin Challenge Cup games after not starting a senior game since late October.

“Andy needs some starts and we have some cup games coming up,” he added. “He has had a head start as he wasn’t going to start until Parma and prove a point.

“He has had a superb 40 minutes here and put himself back up there. I want two number tens competing with each other and performing well.”
