Boss happy to report positive injury news

Boss Richard Hill was pleased to confirm that star winger Marcel Garvey had not suffered a serious injury after he was stretchered off in defeat to Harlequins in the Aviva Premiership.

Garvey had started the league game in spectacular fashion and made a number of scintillating breaks before his evening ended abruptly on 25 minutes.

The winger was caught on the head by the keen of former England man Nick Easter, as he flew into a tackle on the big home Number Eight, and immediately replaced by Errie Claassens after a lengthy stoppage.

However, Hill reported after the game that  Garvey appeared to have no lasting problems from the incident.

“Marcel has been sitting up in the dressing room and he has a bit of a headache and a fat lip at the moment,” he revealed.

“He took a nasty knock and had a lot of blood in the mouth, his mouth is a bit of a mess, but it is nothing serious and he has been talking and is making sense. It was a bad blow.

“He made a superb break just before that and if he finds Miles Benjamin and it goes to hand then we would have been in for another try.

“Miles and Marcel have been a fixture this season, every week they have been on the wing. When Errie (Claassens) came on and we had to switch Miles across to the right because of Errie’s left foot, but both played really well. It worked out well and didn’t seem to impac us too much.”

Meanwhile, Hill revealed fly half duo Andy Goode and Joe Carlisle would be fit and considered for selection next Friday against Sale.

And his back row resources are set for a major boost when Worcester Cavaliers face Bath United in a friendly at The Rec on Monday night.

He said: “We have an interesting back row on Monday with Adam Balding, Neil Best and Kai Horstmann so the three injured men are back.

“They are champing at the bit and have been so disappointed to be missing out on the run we have had since Christmas. They are desperate to get out there and I am going to the game and looking forward to watching it.

“Both Joe and Andy will be back next week. They both trained yesterday (Friday) but we didn’t risk them this week.”
