Abbott delighted by big league scalp

All-action flanker Jake Abbott believes the win over Saracens in the Aviva Premiership has come at just the right time for Warriors – but was keen to downplay his heroics in the big home win.

Abbott was named ESPN man-of-the-match after a game where he made an impressive 21 tackles to help a solid defensive show from the Warriors.

Head Coach Richard Hill insisted after the game that Warriors would now continue to look up the league table.

And Abbott shared that view and could not hide his delight as Warriors sealed off a close clash after recent narrow defeats to Sale Sharks and league leaders Harlequins.

“It is a win that comes at a really vital point of the season for us,” he said. “We want to be looking up and we got the result we needed which is fantastic.

“It was good to get the two losing bonus points in recent weeks, but it was difficult and still painful losing away from home.

“After getting the big wins over Wasps and Gloucester, we backed it up with defeats to Quins and Sale so knew we had to win this one. We felt we were good value for it and got the result we wanted.

“I made some tackles but it was more right place at the right time,” laughed Abbott. “I’m sure the body will hurt tomorrow.

“We have three games left at Sixways in the league now and we have always said we want to make this place a real fortress.

“We have played well at home this season, with the support behind us, and we want to keep that going. The aim now has got to be to remain unbeaten here for the rest of the season.”
