Fans making the journey by car are advised the Park and Ride service will be in operation from County Hall and Blackpole Trading Estate. Both are signposted from Junction 6 of the M5.

There will be no direct bus service from the city centre to the stadium for those arriving by train. However, fans can catch the 31A Sunday Service to Shire Business Park/Three Pears and then use the Park and Walk service to the stadium.

Meanwhile, road users travelling on the M5 around Junction 6 near Worcester this Sunday are being advised by the Highways Agency to expect delays as more than 12,000 rugby fans will be arriving at Sixways.

Frank Bird, Highways Agency events planner, explained: “As two away teams are playing at Sixways Stadium, more than 12,000 spectators will be descending on the venue from about 12pm onwards on Sunday.

“Previous matches of this nature have caused significant delays on the motorway slip road at junction 6 of the M5 and also on the roundabout at the junction due to the sheer volume of traffic in a condensed time period.  Kick-off is at 3pm although we have found that congestion starts to build up from noon onwards, as people arrive early to soak up the atmosphere.

“Our best advice to travelling rugby fans and local people who are likely to use this junction around the time of the rugby match would be to allow plenty of time for your journey. You can check the Highways Agency website for delays before leaving or call the Highways Agency information line on 0300 123 5000 for the latest information on any delays on your intended route.”

People with iPhones can check traffic conditions before they leave or when parked using our Highways Agency travel news app or can follow our Twitter feed at @HAtraffic_wmids.

Frank added: “We will also be using our electronic message signs on approaching motorways to give drivers information about any diversions and delays, and provide up-to-the minute traffic information using local radio.

“Highways Agency Traffic Officers will be stepping up patrols on the M5 around junction 6, to clear any incidents quickly, while staff at Highways Agency’s West Midlands regional control centre will be monitoring the network via CCTV and other state-of-the-art technology to keep traffic moving.”
