Garvey set for emotional Sixways farewell

Wing ace Marcel Garvey admits the magnitude of his last game at Sixways will only sink in on the final whistle on Saturday against London Irish – until then his focus is all securing a winning farewell.

Garvey is set to pull on the Worcester jersey for a last time at Sixways on his 125th appearance – during which time he has clocked up 45 tries.

And it is all set to be a huge day for the Gloucester-born back who also celebrates his 29th birthday.

“The Irish game will be an emotional day,” said Garvey, who features in ‘The Warrior’ match day programme this weekend along with departing legends Chris Fortey, Miles Benjamin, Kai Horstmann and Dale Rasmussen.

“I have never really thought about it, but I am sure when the final whistle goes that’s when it will dawn on me what it means.

“The fans have been great to me since I have found my feet. I have always given 100 per cent for the club and I hope they know it has always been an honour to wear the shirt for me.

“We were all disappointed by last week and the result against Exeter,” he added. “We didn’t want to lose our home unbeaten run so hopefully we can finish off the season on a high.

“With so many players finishing on home soil it seems only fitting that we go out with a win, I really hope we can make that happen.”
