New man Redman out to make impression

New Forwards Coach Nigel Redman has vowed to get the best out of the squad at Sixways after being announced as the latest member of the new-look coaching team at Warriors.

Redman will leave his role as Elite Coach Development Manager at the RFU to return to Sixways where he previously worked as Academy Manager until 2004.

The 47-year-old admits a number of the players in the dressing room at Warriors will be familiar faces from his work with the age groups with England.

However, Redman is determined to have an impact on the entire squad at Sixways as he prepares to join following his work with England Under-20s in the World Championships in South Africa next month.

“It’s a brilliant move for me and I’m looking forward to it,” said Redman. “I spoke to Richard (Hill) on the phone about ten days ago and when he outlined what the club we’re going I was immediately keen to be involved.

“I have enjoyed my time at the RFU fully, but I have always had a soft spot for Worcester and I’m really looking forward to coming back and working with the team at Sixways.

“I was at Sixways before for two years in the Academy, from its inception, and worked with James Percival before and the likes of Richard Blaze, Tom Wood and Matt Mullan. It’s nice to have that link and to be able to come back and look to make an impression again.

“From my perspective, it’s all about getting the very best out of all the players. I want them to move on and get better as well as the club. We will push forward and hopefully fulfill the potential at Sixways.

“I have worked with a number of the players before. Matt Mullan, James Percival, Matt Kvesic, Chris Pennell, Jake Abbott and Joey Carlisle who I have seen play a lot. But I’m excited about the prospect of working with all the squad. I like working with people and developing people.

He added: “I played with Hilly at Bath between 1983 and the early 1990s when he retired so we know each other well.

“We have always stayed in touch and I’m looking forward to working with him and making sure we help this club realise its ambitions.”
