Pre-season – Keep running up that hill!

Pre-season preparations are underway for Warriors as they prepare for the forthcoming Aviva Premiership campaign – with the first week now under the belt of the players at Sixways.

The players spent a gruelling first week at Sixways undergoing tests and strength and conditioning sessions before a shift in focus on Friday afternoon.

The squad decamped to the King George V Playing Fields in Brickfields, Worcester, for a gruelling hill-sprints training session as well as some skills work with the ball.

Stuart Pickering, Worcester’s head of strength and conditioning, said: “It was a very positive first week. The players are in good spirits and have trained very hard with the vast majority in the squad in a very good place for us to progress. A lot of hard work is to come between now and the start of the season, but we are off on the right foot.

“A lot of work in pre-season will be integrated with skills when fatigued. By doing hill sprints, followed by skill work, they have to work hard and they are also doing it in positional groups so there is real competition. It also allows us to get a decent amount of running into the players at the end of the week, one last really hard session, without the high level of exposure to potential injury.”
