Summer signings John Andress and Josh Matavesi will both make their first Warriors start this Saturday (August 18) as Richard Hill’s side look to build on their victory over Cardiff Blues last weekend.
Worcester welcome Scarlets to Sixways for their first home match since April and Hill is keen to cast his eye over his new talent.
He said: “Josh will start. He came on for 20 minutes against Cardiff and looked very sharp indeed.
“We’ll also see our new tighthead prop John for the first time and I’m going to have a look at a few others.
“Josh Drauniniu, who we saw a lot of last season, is back in and we’ll look at a different half back combination as well.”
Hill also admitted that scrum half Ollie Frost could force his way into the team this season after impressing with a last-minute try against Cardiff.
“Ollie’s a player with a lot of determination. He works hard in training and is a very popular player around the club,” added Hill.
“Towards the end of last season and with the signing of Paul Hodgson over the summer, Ollie may have thought his days at the club were numbered, but he’s very determined to make his mark here and continue to play well and impress people.
“He showed how determined he was with his try last weekend. There were four or five players outside him but he wasn’t going to pass that ball.
“If he keeps going the way he is, he will battle for a place in the squad and we want to retain him.”
Meanwhile, Warriors were given a set-back this week when it was confirmed that new wing Nikki Walker will miss the start of the season after injuring his shoulder.
Hill stated: “Nikki popped his AC joint at the top of his shoulder last week and will be out until October. He did it in a training session which wasn’t even full contact so it’s disappointing for him and a big blow for us.
“We won’t see him certainly for the first month of the season which is very disappointing because he was going to come in and be one of our main threats this season.”
Despite Walker’s injury, Hill is staying positive and believes that other players will now have an opportunity to come in and impress him ahead of the Aviva Premiership clash with Bath on September 1.
Hill said: “I would have liked to see Nikki play against Bath but his injury means other players will be able to prove how good they are. There is always someone ready to slot in for an injured player and people will be fighting to take his place.”
