Double try hero Josh Matavesi paid tribute to his team-mates after helping his new club to another pre-season victory.
The 21-year-old was the star of the show at Sixways as Warriors cruised to a 22-7 win over Scarlets.
Matavesi sliced through the Scarlets defence twice in the match and produced a sensational display on his full Warriors debut but was quick to give credit to the rest of the team.
He said: “Tries always come from good team play and mine were no different. I received a great pass from Jonny Arr to score the first and Josh Drauniniu made a good tackle before my second.
“We produced a very strong performance today and a lot of credit should go to the other boys and the strategy we went into this match with.”
The Fiji international joined Warriors this summer from French giants Racing Metro to give the side more of an attacking flair and Matavesi believes the club’s new style of play suits his game.
He stated: “It’s great being in a side which is looking to attack because I just have to stick to my game and carry on playing the same way I’ve always played.
“I’ve loved working with new attack coach Mathieu Rourre because he has brought in some French flair and it’s perfect for my game.
“The other players are improving under Mathieu’s guidance and there is a great relationship between the new coaches and the players.”
Matavesi is still adapting to life back in England but is hoping his performance will help him secure a starting place when the Aviva Premiership season gets underway next month.
He added: “In England players have to put in 100 per cent in every training session which isn’t the case abroad. For me it’s all about getting used to that regime again and getting used to playing English rugby.
“Everyone is working hard and trying to put themselves in the frame for a starting place against Bath. I’m just focusing on the next two friendlies because everyone’s place in the team is still up for grabs.”
After the victory over Scarlets, Worcester Head Coach Richard Hill described Matavesi as having the ‘X-Factor’, but the young centre was refusing to get too carried away by his first full performance in a Warriors shirt on home soil.
“It’s nice to hear the coach praise you, but it doesn’t mean you can take my foot off the pedal. I still have to work hard to improve my game because me and Ravai (Fatiaki) are still competing for a place,” he added.
“We’re all looking forward to the first game against Bath and we’ll use the final two friendlies next week to make sure we’re prepared for the clash.”
