Wing Walker closing in on Warriors call-up

Head Coach Richard Hill has revealed wing Nikki Walker is pushing for a call-up to the Warriors side as the club prepares for Derby Day with Gloucester Rugby this Saturday at Sixways (kick-off 1.30pm).

Scotland international ace Walker is set to pull on a Worcester jersey after damaging his shoulder in pre-season.

However, the fit-again back is now eager to be involved and Hill admits he will have to consider him ahead of the big clash this weekend.

“I’m not necessarily going to stick with the same line-up. I’ve got a lot of confidence in the squad,” he said.

“I’m pleased with the replacements who came on in the second-half against Leicester. The likes of Ollie Hayes, James Currie, Craig Gillies and Matt Kvesic all came on and played well.

“There will be a few changes for this coming week. We’ve got 23 fit players. We haven’t picked up any more injuries.

“The one person who will come into the frame is Nikki Walker. He’s now been given to me by the medical staff so I’ve got to work out whether Nikki comes into that 23 or not at this stage.

“At the start of last season, he had a good pre-season till he popped his A/C joint. He’s been out of rugby for almost 12 months now so it’s a tough one but he’s been training with us.

“This was the second week he’s been training with us. Last week was a bit lighter but this week has been full training for him so he is available so I’ve just got to make that call whether we bring him in.”
