Schofield: Victory will give team a huge boost

Warriors captain Dean Schofield believes the side have been given a huge boost after their resounding victory over London Irish tonight.

Warriors cruised to a 35-11 victory over their rivals and were rewarded with a bonus point after scoring four tries.

Aleki Lutui, David Lemi, Semisi Taulava and Jon Clarke were on target for Warriors to ensure the Sixways side recorded their first victory of the season.

And, according to Schofield, the result will kick-start Warriors’ campaign and help them climb the Aviva Premiership table.

He said: “I speak for all the lads when I say we’re delighted with the victory. It’s been a long time coming but we’ve deserved a win and we’ve done it tonight.

“I said it earlier in the week – we needed to kick-start our season and that’s what we’ve been waiting for.

“We should have won the last two home games but unfortunately we didn’t so it’s great to finally get the win and everyone will enjoy it.”

Despite the improved result, Schofield is adamant that Warriors played the same way as they have done in their opening four games.

“We played exactly how we’ve done from the start of the season tonight and nothing’s changed,” he continued.

“We’re just keeping our heads down and doing what we’ve been doing. We studied Irish this week and we knew where they were vulnerable.

“We just performed. The line-out functioned well. The scrum functioned well. The line-out drive functioned well and the backs did their job and scored a few tries.”

Warriors moved up to 8th in the table after the victory but Schofield said players must keep their feet on the ground.

He added: “We’ve scored eight tries in two games and we are where we want to be at the moment.

“This will take us into next week where we’ve got Wasps then we have Sale next month but we don’t want to get carried away with ourselves.

“We’re a bunch of grafters. I don’t think any team is working harder than us and we’ll keep our heads down and look to progress.”
