Fiji call-up for Matavesi and Fatiaki

Warriors centres Josh Matavesi and Ravai Fatiaki have been called-up to the Fiji squad for their end-of-year tour of Europe.

Both players will represent their country next month, meaning they will miss Warriors’ LV clashes against Scarlets and London Wasps and the Aviva Premiership match against Saracens.

Despite the loss of two players, Warriors Head Coach Richard Hill admitted he was delighted for his players to be selected for international duty.

He said: “Josh and Ravai have been selected to represent Fiji next month and it is fantastic for them to be involved.

“The one game it will be particularly affected for us is our Aviva Premiership clash with Saracens. But I expect Saracens to be weakened by England call-ups on that day as well so both teams will be in the same boat.

“I will have to give it some thought at some stage to work out how to replace those centres.”

Hill acknowledged that international call-ups are inevitable as Warriors now have a squad full of quality players.

He added: “We’d like to have the problems of missing players because of international duty because it emphasises how strong our side has become.

“Our aim over the next two or three seasons is to have these sorts of problems where players are away on international duty because it shows how far we have come. It’s a good problem because it means we have good players.”

The Fiji team is due to play England on Saturday 10 November before facing Gloucester three days later. They will face Ireland A on Saturday 17 November and finish their tour against Georgia the 24th.
