Hill praises Rourre influence

Richard Hill has paid tribute to Warriors’ Attack Coach Mathieu Rourre, who joined the club’s backroom set-up this summer.

Hill has seen his side score eight tries in their last two outings and the Head Coach believes it is largely down to the impact that Rourre has had.

He said: “Mathieu has made a big difference and we’ve got an attacking plan in place. He has changed the mentality of the players and he’s got them excited to attack.

“He’s implemented a lot of little strategies and the players have learnt a vast amount about how to attack and support and how to play the ball out of the tackle. He’s given players the confidence and the ability to attack well.”

Rourre has been working with the squad to ensure they become more of an attacking threat this season and Hill believes his input is paying dividends on the field.

He added: “Mathieu has brought in a number of French attacking principles and you can see why the French have the flair for attack.

“They’ve got the flair but there’s also method in their madness as there are certain key principles which all the players stick to. We will constantly drill those into the players.”

Hill also praised Assistant Head Coach Nigel Redman and Assistant Forwards Coach Phil Vickery, who he believes are helping the club progress.

He added: “In the first seven games last season we picked-up 10 points but had only managed six tries. We’ve got 10 points after five games this campaign and have already scored a dozen tries.

“Nigel has added a driving maul to our arsenal and it has become a good weapon for us. Our scrum is getting better under Phil’s guidance and we are scoring tries in different ways.

“Our tries have come from the scrum, the line-out drive, via attacking kicks and through handling and support so it’s not just one person making the difference. It’s a whole group of players and coaches who are working together and trying to dovetail all this attacking play.”
