Boss demands Euro response from Warriors

Richard Hill called on his Warriors to channel anger and disappointment into positive results in the Amlin Challenge Cup after a 10-6 defeat to London Wasps.

Hill was left frustrated by the manner of defeat in Wycombe and vowed to shake up his team as they now turn their attention to European matters for two weeks.

Warriors travel to Spain to face Bizkaia Gernika RT on Saturday and Hill has demanded his players start to build momentum before a return to league action against Sale Sharks on Friday, October 26.

“The players are disappointed and angry. We have to turn that anger into hard work over the next two or three weeks,” said Hill.

“We will give one or two players an opportunity during the Amlin Challenge Cup to stake a claim for a place.

“That anger, I can assure you, will be turned in the right direction and we have to channel that to Sale when we play them at Sixways in three weeks’ time.

“This group have had to play most of the league games with the injuries we have had. It’s only fair that we give people the chance to step in,” he added.

“The likes of Joe Carlisle at ten, Paul Hodgson at nine and Ravai Fatiaki too will play. We have players coming back from injury that will also get an opportunity, like Neil Best, Jake Abbott and Ed Shervington. They will come into the mix and enjoy playing over the next few weeks.

“Craig Gillies will also be pushing for an opportunity. He has played well when he has come on and he will get a chance to stake his claim.

“He is our best lineout operator, there is no doubt about that, so we will have to look at it because clearly you can’t win if you can’t guarantee you own lineout ball.”
