Head Coach Richard Hill praised his Warriors for producing a professional display as they crushed Bizkaia Gernika by a record-breaking margin in the Amlin Challenge Cup.
Worcester went try crazy in Northern Spain to record a resounding 85-5 victory in Round One of the competition – a new club record in Europe.
Max Stelling (3), Blair Cowan (2), Andy Short (2), Ben Howard (2), Paul Hodgson (2), George Porter and Alex Grove all crossed the whitewash as Warriors ran in 13 tries – also a new club record in Europe.
Hill was full of admiration for the manner in which Warriors performed as they continued to play for 80 minutes to romp to victory.
He said: “It was a good and professional performance which is what I would expect from this squad.
“The danger when you come to a side like Gernika, who are not full time professional side like ourselves, is that you get a sloppy performance.
“At 40-0 at half-time I thought it could deteriorate having got the bonus point, but to be fair to all the players and the replacements that came on we were very clinical and scored 45 points in the second half.
“Sometimes you don’t always get it against a weaker team, but we were very good today.”
Hill also pinpointed the start his side made as the forwards drove over for two early scores to set the tone for the game.
“We started very well,” he added. “You have to try and soften a team like that up, you know what is going to happen and that they are going to be pumped up at home.
“We decided to drive them and our first two tries came from driving lineouts. That was the way to take the sting out of them and get our forward pack playing effectively and sap them of energy.
“Once we had scored a few tries from driving lineouts then we could begin to play a little bit wider and score in the backs.
“Nigel Redman is working really well with that pack of forwards, particularly the lineout drive which is becoming more and more efficient and a really weapon. It sucks defences in and means we can also play wider.”
