Poppy Appeal – Sixways Field of Remembrance

People in Worcestershire are being urged to stand shoulder to shoulder with the whole Armed Forces community and recognise the courage of Service families – and the Warriors are showing our support at the Sale game!

All money raised in this years appeal, including the generous support shown by Warriors Supporters at our game with Sale, will go towards providing vital support for the Armed Forces and their families, so we’re urging everyone to get involved and raise as much as they can for the 2012 Poppy Appeal.

The Legion has flexible and wide ranging support to help every generation of the Armed Forces community, and it estimates almost 9.5 million people in the UK are eligible for its help. Currently the legion spends £1.7million every week in direct welfare support – that’s nearly £250,000 every single day of the week.

For families, the Legion provides adventure breaks for Service children and holiday breaks for families who have had to spend long periods apart.

Older veterans get help with home repairs, places in residential homes and support if they suffer from conditions like dementia.

The charity also provides benefits and money advice, emergency grants and employment support, and has also recently invested £50 million to care for wounded, injured and sick in-Service personnel.  The legion also works with other service charities including Combat Stress and Blind Veterans UK.

The legion provides a powerful voice for the Armed Forces Community, campaigning to ensure that no one is disadvantaged as a result of service and securing the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant into law.

As the national custodians of Remembrance we support the country at this time as the nation comes together to remember and honour the sacrifices of those who fought and continue to fight in service of our nation.

The Warriors are showing their support to the Poppy Appeal this year through the collection at our game with Sale and again this year hosting ‘Worcestershire’s Field of Remembrance’.  This was opened on Thursday by Coun Rob Adams, Chairman of Worcestershire County Council, who called on everyone in Worcestershire to place a cross and show support to all our Armed Forces and their Families’.
