Murray delighted with victory on full debut

Warriors new-boy Euan Murray was delighted with his side’s victory over Perpignan last night after making his first start for the club.

Murray was a dominating presence in the Warriors forward pack on a wet night at Sixways and was instrumental in helping his side to a 22-21 victory.

He said: “I enjoyed my debut – it was good. I was given a nice Scottish welcome in terms of the weather and it was great to get the win.

“We’ve been training in these conditions all week and we’ve been working hard on scrums and mauls. At times it was dry and the next minute it was pouring with rain so it was a bit difficult.”

Murray was also impressed with his new teammates in the forward pack and admitted the victory was down to a hard-working team performance.

He continued: “Our forward pack held their own against a big physical team and the likes of Matt Kvesic, James Percival and Ed Shervington were outstanding.

“We made it difficult for ourselves at times with yellow cards but it was really good that we stuck together and came back to get the victory.”

Warriors face Perpignan at Stade Aimé Giral next Saturday in a match which is likely to decide which team progresses to the quarter-finals.

And, according to Murray, Warriors will have to be at the top of their game if they are to come away with another positive result.

He added: “It’s going to be a difficult match next week. I don’t know what their side will be like but it won’t change too much because they put out a strong side last night with a lot of internationals.

“We don’t know what’s up ahead. There are still three more games in our pool so we’ll take it one day at a time and work hard.”
