A host of Warriors first-team stars will be heading down to Nando’s in the city centre on Monday night as they are let loose behind the grills to raise money for charity.
Ten players, including Shaun Perry, Josh Matavesi and local boy Jonny Arr, face a meaty challenge as they cook for paying customers at the popular restaurant.
The players will be raising money for their official charity partner Acorns Children’s Hospice and supporters are being urged to go and taste the culinary delights on offer.
Worcester-born Jake Abbott, who arranged the evening, said: “We eat at Nando's enough so we thought we’d go down and take over the cooking for one night.
“We’ll be going round with a bucket to raise money for Acorns, a charity which is close to us at Warriors, so hopefully people will be generous and spare a bit of change – every penny really does count.”
Warriors’ Assistant Forwards Coach Phil Vickery has already demonstrated his cooking ability after winning celebrity MasterChef last year, but Abbott thinks he can give the World Cup winner a run for his money.
He continued: “It’s the turn of the players on Monday night and I can tell you I’m the best chef. I do all the cooking in my house and I’ve been known to serve up Thai red curry, chicken and prawn curry and a host of other delicious dishes.
“I even made a chicken, leek and mushroom pie last week so I’ve been practising ahead of the big night.”
The players will be at the restaurant from 6.30-8.30pm on Monday 10 December and Abbott is looking forward to seeing as many Warriors fans as possible enjoying the food.
He added: “Fans will be able to come and meet us, get an autograph and talk about rugby. They’ll be loads of us there so it will be a great evening out.
“It will be good to raise some money for Acorns as well and we want to see Nandos full with Warriors supporters.”
