Grove targets win in milestone match

Alex Grove is hoping Warriors can transfer their home form into points on the road when they travel to Salford City Stadium to face Sale Sharks tomorrow night.

The centre is set to make his one hundredth appearance for the club in his side’s post-Christmas clash with the Aviva Premiership’s bottom side.

But despite the fact that Sale have won just once this season, Grove believes they will be aiming to pick-up some more points ahead of the New Year.

He said: “Obviously Sale are at the bottom of the table but there are no easy games and they’ll be targeting this clash as much as we are.

“Sale will be up for every game now. They’ve changed their management and they’ll be looking to spark something.”

Grove helped his side to a 13-6 victory against London Welsh last Friday and it was his initial line-break which led to Semisi Taulava’s winning try.

After a stalemate first-period, the hosts got the important try just before the hour-mark to briefly move within four points of the Heineken Cup places and, according to Grove, the battling victory is another sign that the side are moving forward.

He continued: “London Welsh are a team we didn’t underestimate. Before the game we knew they’d put up a really good fight for the first 60 minutes but we backed our fitness.

“It wasn’t a game of free-flowing rugby but we came through it. If we can win these home games and start picking up wins on the road, we’re going to be in a good place.”

Grove has proved to be an important player for Warriors again this season and he admitted he is looking forward to joining the 100 club in the final game of 2012.

He added: “It’s a nice milestone and it would be brilliant if we could get a win. We’ll have a lot of travelling support and they’ve been great all season.

“We’ve got to stick to what we’ve been doing well and try and take our home form on the road. We’ve been working hard over Christmas and want to end this year on a high.”
