De Carpentier set for another chance to shine

Head Coach Richard Hill is set to give young back row Richard de Carpentier another chance to impress in the LV=Cup after the former England Sevens star caught the eye at the Madejski Stadium.

De Carpentier linked up with Warriors in November after a trial period at Sixways and was given a first start since November against London Irish.

The 22-year-old flanker, who previously played at Leicester Tigers and had a spell on loan at Nottingham in the RFU Championship last season, took his chance in the LV=Cup defeat.

De Carpentier almost capped his performance with a superb solo score packed full of pace as he broke down the middle and raced around Shane Geraghty before just being hauled up short by Marland Yarde.

And Hill admitted he had seen more than enough of the young prospect to give him another opportunity when Warriors face Saracens in the LV=Cup at Sixways on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

“It was his first game in a while because he wasn’t qualified to play in the Amlin Challenge Cup so we couldn’t play him the last few weeks,” revealed Hill.

“He has had to be held back and has been ready to play, but I was very impressed with his performance. He looks on the basis of that performance to be a very good player who has a big future.

“I certainly wouldn’t put him out on loan until I have seen him in these two games in the LV=Cup,” he added.

“I will look to get him involved against Saracens at home to give him a good go. On the performance he produced against London Irish he deserves another game and start.

“If he turns out to be something really special then he will be in contention for a first team place the rest of this season.”
