Warriors youngster Ben Howard has spoken of his pride after representing the England Under 20 side at Sixways Stadium last weekend.
Howard starred for England and played the full 80 minutes as his side swept to a comprehensive 40-10 over France Under 20s.
The victory leaves Rob Hunter’s side second in the RBS Six Nations table behind Wales, who England face in the final game of the campaign.
And Howard admits the experience of pulling on the England shirt at his home stadium is something that will stay with him forever.
He said: “It was a surreal experience to run out at Sixways at five to three on a Saturday afternoon and sing my national anthem.
“It was a great day and definitely one I will remember for the rest of my career. It’s right up there with my Aviva Premiership debut and my England Under 20 debut.”
Saturday’s clash proved to be the ultimate game of two halves as England had only managed to muster a 6-3 lead at the break.
But a sensational hat-trick form captain Jack Clifford in the second period ensured England claimed the spoils in style on home territory.
“In the first-half we didn’t perform how we wanted to. That last pass wasn’t going to hand and we were kicking too much,” continued Howard.
“There were some harsh words spoken at half-time. Rob said we looked scared to lose the match so our attitude changed after that.
“It was a dry day and the pitch was remarkably good considering the weather we had experienced in the last few weeks so we moved the ball round and scored some tries.”
The wing set-up two tries and nearly went over the whitewash himself but couldn’t hold on to an awkward pass.
But Howard admits he was pleased with his overall performance. He added: “There’s a lot of pressure beforehand and a lot of nerves flying around but, if you’re in familiar surroundings, it’s easier to settle.
With the Under 20s we try to play a bit of rugby and, as an outside back, that is enjoyable to be a part of. Saturday was a great day and I can’t wait for our next match against Italy.”
