Richard Hill praised the response from the Worcester pack as the Sixways forwards impressed in a 24-18 late defeat to Exeter Chiefs in the Aviva Premiership.
Hill admitted his Warriors had been stung by criticism last week after the loss to London Irish.
But the pack roared back to life with a driving maul try from Matt Kvesic and set-up another for Josh Drauniniu.
“I’m very pleased for Nigel Redman and the forwards,” admitted Hill.
“They have had a little bit of stick this week after last week against London Irish, but to score one from a driving maul directly and another try indirectly from a driving maul was pleasing.
“Last week was a strange game and very bizarre. The forwards were hurt by it and have responded in the right way and worked very hard.
“When you look at it, last week is hard to explain and Nigel has worked hard on the maul, both in defence and attack. For some reason we didn’t do it last week.
“We did our job today; we stopped the Exeter maul and scored a couple ourselves. Nigel has kicked a few backsides, bashed a few heads together to drill it home and that is the result. I’m pleased for them, the attitude was good.”
Warriors now have three games left – and two away from home at Saracens and London Welsh – and Hill insists his team still has plenty to play for.
He said: “We’re in a limbo situation in the league where there is nothing to play for in terms of top six.
“It can be hard with three games to go for our players to maybe have the same motivation as Exeter who are still going for top six.
“I was delighted that we matched their grit and determination today and we played some good rugby and made some cracking line breaks. Over the summer we have got some hard work to do to finish them off.
“We need to retain that attitude. We played with intent and we have got to win some of these games.
“We are all disappointed to lose at home, but we played with great intent and there are lots of positives. The last five minutes we have let it go – but next year we will get it right.
“We must try and develop our game in the coming games and also get the away victory. We have two games to nail that down and get that monkey off our back.”
