Worcester Warriors saw off Leeds Rugby in the third place play-off after missing out on a place in the final at the Oxford University Sevens on Saturday.
Warriors opened their campaign with a 45-14 victory over Oxford Rugby League before seeing off Oxford University to progress to the knock-out stages.
In the semi-final Warriors came up against White Hart Marauders, who had progressed through their group with one win and one loss. Mark Hewitt’s men battled hard but eventually lost out 24-14 after a tight match.
Warriors’ conquerors faced Oxford University in the final and their Sevens experience held them in good stead as they ran-out 24-10 winners to claim the Oxford Shard.
Academy Manager Hewitt said: “We were on top of our game in the group stages and recorded a big victory against the eventual runners-up Oxford University.
“We didn’t quite have enough to progress to the final but I was extremely pleased with the attitude of the players.”
