Warriors kick-off pre-season at Malvern College

The countdown to the new Aviva Premiership season is underway as the Warriors returned to pre-season to the stunning backdrop of the Malvern Hills.

Malvern College, one of Britain’s leading independent schools, has become the temporary home for the Warriors as the club gears up for the new season.

The squad will use the school’s pitches and indoor training facilities for the first six weeks of pre-season training. The move comes after the rugby club made the College an Elite Player Development Group (EPDG) Centre in September this year. Eight College pupils have been identified by the club as rugby players with considerable potential.

Warriors’ partnership with the College sees the club’s coaching expertise to Malvern College throughout the year as well as giving young players with talent the opportunity to get into Premiership rugby. The partnership reflects the importance Malvern College places on the role that health and fitness plays in education.

Stuart Pickering, Head of Strength & Conditioning at Warriors, said: “Pre-season is a vitally important time for the club as we start preparations for the new season and so we are delighted that our strong and developing links with Malvern College has enabled us to utilise the outstanding facilities they have.”

The Headmaster of Malvern College, Antony Clark, said: “We’re delighted to cement our strong relationship with Worcester Warriors and welcome them to our school for their pre-season training. We are very pleased to support the club in this way and also to have become one of their Elite Player Development Group Centres.

“Boys from our school and from the Worcestershire community will not only benefit from the expertise of those they admire, but they will also be able to witness at first-hand the degree of training and conditioning that goes into being a first-class player.

“Sport is a key part of the holistic programme offered at Malvern and we’re looking forward to continuing our relationship with Worcester Warriors.”
