Dumbbells and wedding bells for Shervington

All-action hooker Ed Shervington admits every day at training has been an intense experience during pre-season – as he prepares for the other big date in his diary and walking down the aisle!

New Director of Rugby Dean Ryan has brought in Head Coach Carl Hogg and Backs Coach Shane Howarth this summer and, according to Shervington, the players are working harder than ever.

He said: “It’s been intense since we came back. A lot is being asked of us and we’re digging in and doing our best to give what we can.

“There’s a good intensity in the squad and we’re enjoying it so far. Everyone’s looking good and with the intensity and volume of training we’re doing it’s not going to take long for boys to be in good shape.

“One Tuesday we started off with a swim, did skills training and moved on to an upper body weights session before lunch. Then we came back out and had a game before finishing with another weights session. It’s been tough but beneficial.”

The popular Welsh hooker says it feels like a new era at the club and insists the players can rise to the new challenges ahead.

He continued: “It’s a new environment and seems like a new club with all the signings and new staff – it feels fresh. What we’ve got ahead of us is well planned and it’s going to help us hugely.

“The new coaches are putting what they want across and they’re demanding what they want; we’re doing everything we can to give it to them. It’s tough but the best will come through it.”

Shervington has been working hard over the last few weeks, but he will have a much-needed break from the rigours of pre-season training soon as he prepares to get married to fiancée Stacey next weekend.

And he says it is the perfect occasion to bring the players together ahead of the new campaign.

He added: “The wedding is coming up and it’s a bit of a stressful time but I’m excited about it. I’m nervous about my speech but I’m looking forward to having a wife.

“The majority of the boys are going. It will be a nice social occasion for everyone to celebrate the day and have a good time. We’ll be training on the Monday though so we won’t be drinking!”
