Boss Ryan urges supporters to pack Sixways

Dean Ryan has urged supporters to pack Sixways when Aviva Premiership rugby returns to Worcester on Saturday.

Warriors host London Irish in their first home clash of the season and the Director of Rugby believes that the fans’ support will be crucial.

He said: “We want to be in front of our home crowd and we want everybody to get behind us.

“This is the top league and it will be a tough season so everybody that has an interest in Worcester Warriors needs to cheer us on.”

Warriors produced a positive second-half performance in their season opener against Aviva Premiership champions Leicester Tigers last weekend.

And Ryan believes that the team is moving in the right direction. He continued: “There’s a real positive feel around the group at the moment and they’re all desperate to make a positive impact.

“We’ve got some challenges and, although we haven’t got the strongest squad across the league and we don’t have the luxury of a Lions contingent, we have some good players who have really strong intent on moving this club forward.”

Warriors beat London Irish 35-11 in the same fixture last season as they recorded a bonus-point victory. And Ryan admits Warriors will be aiming for more of the same on Saturday.

He concluded: “If we can play like we did against the champions for 40 minutes last weekend, we can do it against anyone.

“We’re coming back to Sixways and things will go up a couple of notches as we’ll have the crowd behind us.

“We’ve been pedalling expectations for too long now, whereas in reality the expectation is that we will work really hard to represent everyone involved with Warriors and hopefully we can reflect that on Saturday.”
