Flanker Betty set for half-century appearance

When Warriors’ Sam Betty steps out onto the field against London Irish tomorrow, he will make his 50th appearance for the club.

The flanker has played 24 times in each of the last two campaigns since joining from RFU Championship side Cornish Pirates in 2011.

“I hadn’t even realised it was my 50th game and it’s kind of crept up on me,” said Betty.

“When I step out on the field it will be a proud day for me and hopefully I can push on from here and get 100 appearances.”

The 26-year-old also admits that life is now flourishing at Sixways after a summer of changes at the club.

He added: “Life here was very different from down at Cornwall and I’m really enjoying it now under the new regime and things are looking good.

“We know our responsibilities better now, our roles are clearer and we know what we’ve got to do out there on the pitch to win matches.”

Tomorrow’s opponents London Irish finished ninth in the Aviva Premiership last season and Betty feels that the Madejski Stadium side will be a tough outfit to beat.

He concluded: “They’ve got a lot of talent including some big-hitting players and a decent back three that are going to be a handful.

“We need to get some points on the board as soon as possible but we’ve got to look to win everything at home and obviously we’ll give it our all to win every game.

“The fans are always brilliant and I’m sure they will get behind us as usual.”
