Symons optimistic after marking debut with victory

New signing Andy Symons admits he is excited about his Warriors career after making his debut in last Friday’s triumph over Cardiff Blues in the LV= Cup.

The centre came on in the second-half at Cardiff Arms Park, where Warriors produced a resilient defensive effort in the last 15 minutes to ensure a 21-16 victory over the Blues.

And the 22-year-old is aiming to propel his side to more success throughout the season.

He said: “It was a great opportunity for me to come on against Cardiff. To start my Warriors career with a win was fantastic.

“It was a great first-half performance and the boys showed true grit at the end to see the game out.

“I’m enthusiastic and excited about playing at Sixways and I want to get out there and help us pick-up more positive results.”

This Friday Leicester Tigers travel to Sixways for Round Two of the LV= Cup and they are a side that Symons knows well, having spent time at Welford Road club last season.

He added: “It’ll be great to come up against a few of the guys I know at Leicester. They will have a really young side and they’re full of flair.

“They’ll come out and attack us. They have a lot of talent but we showed against Cardiff that we can play good rugby and hopefully we can produce another solid display.”

The former Tasman Makos player said it has been a quick turnaround since arriving at Warriors last Tuesday but insists he has settled in well at his new club.

He concluded: “It’s all happened pretty fast as I played my first match just a couple of days after joining up with the team.

“But it was awesome to get involved and it’s been a really smooth transition. The boys have made me feel welcome straight away and the coaches have got me up to speed and hopefully I can make a decent impression.”
