Warriors announce new High Performance Director

The vision of Worcester Warriors is to create one of the country’s most exciting, sustainable and competitive Premiership rugby teams.

We have already begun to lay these foundations, with the recent appointments of Dean Ryan as Director of Rugby and Carl Hogg, Shane Howarth, Simon Cross and Ceri Jones to the coaching team.

Worcester Warriors believes passionately in the need to actively encourage and nurture the next generation of young players to the pinnacle of professional rugby placing the Academy process at the heart of our future development plans.

We are therefore delighted to announce the appointment of Nick Johnston as our High Performance Director who will be responsible for implementing world class systems and procedures underpinning our future success.

Nick left Northampton Saints in October having arrived at Franklin’s Gardens in 2008 from Sale Sharks.

He went on to play an important role within the backroom staff to help the Saints team reach six finals in as many seasons and establish themselves the Aviva Premiership’s higher echelons.

Warriors Director of Rugby Dean Ryan said: “I am absolutely delighted that Nick has agreed to join us. His record in high performance management and the development of the academy programme is second to none and I know this appointment will be a tremendous boost to this club.

“His appointment is further evidence to our ever increasing commitment to the long-term development of Worcester Warriors.”

Warriors’ new High Performance Director Nick Johnston said: “This is a tremendous challenge and I am excited by the vision which this club clearly has.

“I have known Dean for many years and I am a great admirer of everything he has done in the world of rugby.

“Having left the Saints after several wonderful years at the club I needed a new challenge. This is exactly the challenge I’ve been looking for and I cannot wait to get started.”

Warriors Chief Executive Charles Cameron added: “Everyone connected with this club buys in to our vision.

“We have already started to lay the foundations by identifying our key priorities. These include today’s exciting announcement of Nick’s appointment, together with an ever increasing development of young players through our Academy system.

“The changes we have already made, and the further announcements we will be making in the next few weeks, demonstrate just how serious we are as a club to meet all of our ambitions through our absolute commitment to invest in the future enjoyment and success of rugby in the West Midlands for generations to come.”
