England youngster looking forward to Sixways future

Andrew Boyce says he is targeting a place in the Warriors first-team after impressing for the Cavaliers.

Warriors Director of Rugby Dean Ryan has spoken fondly of the academy youngster’s performances in the Aviva A League and Boyce admits it is nice to be recognised for his efforts.

He said: “I didn’t know what to expect when coming here so I just got my head down, worked hard and it’s nice to get a pat on the back.

“I’ve improved vastly from last year mainly due to the academy coaches and players like Jake Abbott and Sam Betty who have helped get me to where I am quicker than I might have otherwise.

“Now I’m just hoping I can push for a place in the first-team.”

The forward has recently been called-up to the England Under 18s to play Australia Schoolboys on December 4, and is relishing the opportunity to represent his country once again.

He added: “It’s nice to know that people are recognising you for your hard work.

“Playing against Australia Schoolboys will be a real challenge. They have brought over players like Kurtley Beale, David Pocock and James O’Connor in the past.

“I’m looking forward to testing myself against a southern hemisphere team and we’ll be up against some of the best players in the world at my age.”

The forward helped guide Cavaliers to a 24-22 victory over Bristol United at Sixways on Monday, and is enjoying every minute on the field.

He said: “We had a fantastic first-half hour against Bristol and really got on top of them.

“It got tense at the end but we put in a great shift to hold out for the win.”
