Hogg predicts tough forward contest against Saints

Head Coach Carl Hogg believes Saturday’s clash with Northampton at Sixways will be decided in a battle between the forwards.

In recent weeks, Warriors have shown vast improvement in the pack and the ex-Scotland forward insists it is vital they contest well at the set-piece this weekend.

He said: “The game against Saints will be won or lost up front. They are physical, confrontational and have a strong forward pack that will come at us through the scrum and drive.

“But we have been showing much more consistent behaviour and showing consistency under pressure recently, so we have to make sure we do the basics right and stand up to them this weekend.”

The Head Coach insists Warriors can pick up a result against Saints, who sit second in the Aviva Premiership.

But he knows if they are to do so, they will need to cope with spells of pressure from a powerful Northampton side.

He concluded: “We recognise the challenge that Saints will bring. They are a force in Europe as well as the Premiership but we have to focus on ourselves.

“Games swing on pivotal moments. As a group we have to recognise when we are in a precious situation and we have to stick to the basics and core elements of our game much more consistently.

“We have to weather those windows of pressure by doing the basics well. If we can do that, the likelihood is we will come out unscathed.

“If we can show some of our recent form and be consistent through 80 minutes of play, we can come away with a result.”

Warriors are set to make a number of changes from last weekend’s clash at Sale Sharks and Hogg admits this Saturday will be an opportunity for some of the players to step up to the occasion.

He added: “Injuries in the squad do give an opportunity for younger players to put their hand up and this weekend some of the boys will experience a top-end Premiership game.

“These players will benefit and learn a lot from the experience and we will also learn a lot about them.”

Seated tickets for Saturday's match are available from £24 for adults and £15 for juniors and are available by calling 01905 459309, visiting the Warriors Box Office or clicking here.
