Shervington – Hard work has eventually paid off

Hooker Ed Shervington insists Warriors’ 20-13 victory over Oyonnax is a sign of the squad’s hard work paying off.

Despite being 8-7 behind at half-time, Warriors dominated their French opponents and produced a fine display to see-off the Top 14 side in the second-half.

Shervington said: “We’ve waited a long time for that win. We’ve worked very hard for it and today it finally paid off.

“We were up against a decent Top 14 outfit and we put in a good performance against them. The changing room was buzzing afterwards.”

The Warriors forward pack had the better of Oyonnax for most of the match and the Warriors front-row believes it is a testament to how the group have come together over recent weeks.

He admitted: “We had to play it right by keeping it in the forwards which we did today and we dominated up front.

“The front five have been playing together for a while in the Amlin Challenge Cup this season and we have built some momentum and today it really showed in the forward pack.”

The Warriors backline also impressed with a number of positive performances across the park.

And Shervington believes it was down to some fine game management from numbers nine and ten.

He added: “Our game management was great and the credit for that goes to Jonny Arr and Ignacio Mieres.

“They controlled the game well on what was a wet day. In those conditions you have to get the basics right and play in the right areas and they allowed us to do that.

“At the break we realised we had to keep doing what we were doing and it paid off in the end. Hopefully we can build some momentum from here on in.”
