Dean Ryan says he was proud of the performances of his youngsters who featured in Saturday’s clash with Sale Sharks at the AJ Bell Stadium.
Elliott Davies made his Warriors debut at fly-half while academy stars Andrew Boyce and Jack Cosgrove came off the bench to make their first appearances for the club.
And despite losing 20-6 to the Greater Manchester side, Ryan remained upbeat.
He said: “It was a difficult task for the young guys. In the last 30 minutes I think Sale’s experience showed but the youngsters made a good account of themselves.
“Unless we give these guys opportunities to play, we don’t find out if there is any talent there.”
Youngsters Christian Scotland-Williamson, George de Cothi and Josh Watkins also played against Sale, and Ryan believes the process of moving the club forward has now started.
He added: “It is early days for them but putting guys like Jack up against an international prop in Eifion Lewis-Roberts, is what it’s all about.
“George and Jack have been chewing my ear for opportunities. Some guys don’t find it easy but sometimes they feel they can live with playing at this level and it gives them a boost, so I am really pleased for them.
“By having given these guys a taste of first-team rugby, that is how the club grows and now we have started the process.”
Dean Schofield captained Warriors in the second-row, alongside Scotland-Williamson who earned his first Warriors start.
And Ryan insists the blend of experience running alongside youth is the ideal way to develop the youngsters.
He concluded: “The mix of Dean Schofield playing in a team with Elliott is an example of how a club should be.
“He provided a framework for some lads like Christian to play around him and that’s what a good professional does and what a good club does.
“Dean is here to show the likes of Christian how things work and in a year’s time he will become a big guy in the Worcester pack.
“The LV= is a great tournament because it allows us to give these opportunities to our young guys. We will keep using it to try and grow these youngsters and there are three or four that are going to become good Premiership players.”
