A homeless centre in Birmingham is re-launching its breakfast provision next week after an appeal by Worcester Warriors.
Earlier this week, Warriors players urged businesses and members of the public in the Birmingham area to donate breakfast for people who use the SIFA Fireside centre in Digbeth.
The appeal featured on BBC Midlands Today and ITV News Central and resulted in a large donation by several anonymous people and Midlands businesses.
Following the donation, SIFA Fireside have now announced that their breakfast provision will return next Tuesday and will continue every weekday.
SIFA Fireside’s Operations Manager Carole Fox said: “I am elated that we are now in a position to start serving breakfast again as we know how vital to our clients’ wellbeing it is.
“I cannot thank Worcester Warriors enough for all the support they have given us. The appeal had more impact than we could ever have imagined.
“A big thank you must also go to all those who have given us a donation. This will improve the life of all the people who use our centre.”
Warriors began their support of Sifa Fireside at the start of this season and have been serving breakfast every other Monday morning.
Up to 120 vulnerable or homeless people visit the drop-in centre for food each day.
With the help of staff and volunteers, Warriors players have served up over 800 breakfasts since they began supporting the project.
Warriors lock Dean Schofield, who initiated his club’s involvement with SIFA, says he is pleased with the impact of the appeal.
He said: “I am delighted how well this appeal was received and cannot thank the members of the public and businesses enough for their donations.
“We’ve thoroughly enjoyed helping out at the centre this season and we hope even more people will get behind the centre, because they do a fantastic job.”
