Cavaliers to battle Army at Sixways this Wednesday

Worcester Cavaliers welcome The Army to Sixways this Wednesday 12 March (kick-off 7.30pm) in the annual charity match between the two sides.

The likes of Jonny Arr, Matt Kvesic and Shaun Perry have appeared in the match in previous years and this season’s team is likely to include Warriors first-team stars such as James Stephenson, Andy Symons and Jeremy Su’a.

A group of local teenagers have been given the opportunity to run the matchday at Worcester Warriors Rugby Club as part of the award-winning HITZ programme.

It is the third consecutive year that local youngsters have played a part in running the match between Worcester Cavaliers and The Army.

The youngsters have been working with Warriors staff to plan, promote and deliver the match.

Tasks have included designing eye-catching posters to promote the event and interviewing players to get their thoughts ahead of the match.

Other youngsters have also gone behind the scenes in the Sixways kitchens and the hospitality and maintenance teams to understand just how much preparation goes into planning a match at the stadium.

Warriors HITZ Officer Stuart Brooks said: “The HITZ programme has been running for about 15 months and is proving to be very beneficial for everyone involved.

“These youngsters are passionate about sport and they are keen to learn and develop as individuals in this environment.

“By giving them an opportunity to be part of different departments and understand day-to-day life in a work-place, we have seen these youngsters grow in confidence.”

HITZ student Connor Mitchell said: “I’m excited about working with the Warriors staff, who give us lots of support every day. It is a chance for us to work as a team and learn new things.”

Tickets for the match are available for £5 for adults and juniors and are free for Season Ticket holders but must be claimed before the day. Car parking at the ground is also free for everyone.

For tickets and more information, contact the Warriors Box Office on 01905 459309 or visit www.warriors.co.uk.

The game is being sponsored by Bromsgrove School, who have this season signed-up to support the Warriors Academy side.

Interserve will also be holding a fundraising event at the game in aid of the charity organisation Help for Heroes.
