Ryan – Cavaliers can push claim for Warriors place

Dean Ryan admits tomorrow night’s clash between Worcester Cavaliers and The Army is an opportunity for players to put their hand up for a place in the Warriors side to face London Wasps at Sixways on Friday 21 March.

New signing Jerome Schuster will give Warriors supporters a first glimpse of why Ryan brought him to the club while Andy Symons is set to make his return from injury against The Army (kick-off 7.30pm).

Ryan said: “There’s a chance for Schuster to play and we will get a look at him. He has come to help out and to make sure we don’t get right down on our resources.

“Symons will have an opportunity and he could force himself into contention which gives us some more numbers around that area.”

The former Gloucester boss insists he will also be keeping an eye on some of the side’s youngsters.

He continued: “There are things to be gained from people long-term. There are some youngsters playing that can really push their case.

“A couple of them are around the fringes of the first-team squad and a performance against The Army could move them into the reckoning.”

New Zealander Cam Goodhue will start in the back-row for the Cavaliers whilst his younger brother Josh, is named in the replacements.

Ryan added: “Josh has a decent reputation in New Zealand. He is over here with his brother so we are taking a look at him.

“We have a real interest in him being involved with us and if he gets some game-time it will be great.”
