Warriors set to host prestigious Sedbergh Super Tens tournament

Worcester Warriors are set to host the prestigious Sedbergh Super Tens tournament at the end of March, in association with Sedbergh School and the Army Yorkshire Regiment.

The tournament will see some of the top rugby schools in the country competing at Warriors’ Sixways Stadium.

It is the first time the tournament has been held away from Sedbergh School since it began in 1997.

Warriors Director of Rugby Dean Ryan has close links with Sedbergh School and has managed and overseen coaching sessions during summer camps for the last two years, which he will do again this year.

Ryan said: “I am delighted the Sedbergh Super Tens will be held at Sixways and look forward to watching some of the best up-and-coming players in action.

“Hosting this competition will allow us to grow our relationships with the top rugby schools in the country.”

Some of the Aviva Premiership’s finest players have played in the Sedbergh Tens including England captain Chris Robshaw, Northampton Saints back row Phil Dowson and Bath Rugby’s Jonathan Joseph.

Sedbergh School also includes Will Greenwood, Will Carling, Dowson and James Simpson-Daniel among its alumni.

The tournament, which will be held on Sunday 30 March and Monday 31 March, will comprise 12 teams and the semi-finals and final are set to be played on the main stadium pitch.

The second day will include a presentation at midday to introduce the Warriors Regional Academy to schools, clubs and spectators.

The tournament is also an opportunity for youngsters to impress Warriors coaches, as 15 of the best players over the two days will be invited to a training camp with the Warriors Academy during the Easter holidays.

At the camp, youngsters will undergo a professional training schedule under the guidance of Warriors’ first-team and Academy coaches as well as attending lectures about nutrition and conditioning.

Warriors are also appealing for schools from across the region to come and watch the competition. For more information, please contact Warriors’ Academy Manager Mark Hewitt at mark.hewitt@warriors.co.uk.
