Academy duo set for spells Down Under

Warriors Academy duo Elliott Davies and George de Cothi are set for short spells in New Zealand to play for Greerton Marist RFC in Bay of Plenty.

Davies flies to New Zealand today while De Cothi will fly out to join up with his new teammates on May 12 to play in the Bayfair Baywide Premier Division.

The pair, who made their Warriors debuts in the LV= Cup this season, will return later in the summer for pre-season at Sixways.

Academy Manager Mark Hewitt said: “It’s a great opportunity for these boys to go Down Under and experience some Southern Hemisphere rugby.

“Both of them have worked extremely hard during the course of this season and playing in New Zealand can only aid their development as they look to push their claims for a first-team place in the future.”

De Cothi added: “It’s key playing rugby regularly. When I’ve played week-in week-out at Stourbridge and Bromsgrove this year it has really improved me as a player.”

“Getting game-time in New Zealand will be a great opportunity and also a great life experience too.

“We’ll be going out there, training twice a week and playing on a Saturday so we’re excited.

“Southern Hemisphere rugby is a bit more quick-tempo which really fits my game and hopefully that will give me an edge going into next season.

“Hopefully Elliott and I can gain a wealth of experience alongside some older players and catch a bit of a tan!”
