Pennell craving more international action

Warriors vice-captain Chris Pennell says he is hungry for more international action following his recent appearances for England in New Zealand.

The full-back made his debut as a replacement against the All Blacks in the first Test of this summer's tour before making a significant impact against the Crusaders, where he scored a late try and set-up another.

And Pennell admits he wants to be involved in the England set-up beyond the tour.

He said: “To have my first taste of international rugby two weeks ago was great but only having a couple of minutes meant that I was dead keen to get out there again and try and give a good account of myself.

“It was good fun against the Crusaders and I was really pleased to get the try at the end and it capped everything off quite nicely.

“I feel I’ve improved with the experience and it’s all heading in a really positive direction. Having had that taste now, I certainly want more.”

Pennell, who was nominated for the Aviva Premiership Player of the Season award last season, has spent the last month training alongside some of the best players in the world. And he admits he is enjoying his time Down Under.

He explained: “Everything has been going pretty well. I’ve just been trying to absorb as much information as possible, learn as much as possible and show that I’m willing to work and take things on board.

“It still feels surreal to be an England international but I’m massively pleased to take that step. It isn’t something I would have imagined at the start of the season, although it’s always been an ambition of mine.

“It’s a really special environment and you’ve got good people who are operating at the highest level.

“Every player is trying to improve and learn on a day-to-day basis. The levels of professionalism are right up there and the intensity is high.

“At this level everyone has so much drive to be successful and it’s an inspiring thing to be a part of.”
