Hogg – We want to go unbeaten

Head Coach Carl Hogg insists he wants an unbeaten run for Warriors in the B&I Cup when they take on Nottingham Rugby on Saturday (kick-off 2pm).

Warriors secured qualification to the quarter-finals of the B&I Cup after coming from behind to beat Munster A at Cork on Friday and former Scotland international Hogg is targeting a clean sweep for Warriors.

He said: “We’re looking forward to coming up against Nottingham and we’ll try to go unbeaten in this tournament.

“There is a lot still riding on this weekend. We want to go home and put on a good display at Sixways and we’ll want to give people an opportunity to keep developing their game.”

Despite being down 15-6 at half-time in Cork, Warriors dominated the second period to fight back to victory and Hogg paid testament to the work rate of his side.

He continued: “It was a keenly contested game and we’re delighted to come out with a win away at Munster.

“We weathered the storm reasonably well for the first 20 minutes and ironically they were two soft tries that we gave away from the restart and a sharp bit of play from Munster but that final 20 minutes of the game our defence was heroic.

“We defended stoutly. We started phases of possession on the 22 yet we managed to get some line speed and collision and ended up on the halfway.

“It’s a testament to the boys who have come here as it’s a difficult place to come but the energy of the group was fantastic.”

And the Head Coach insists the group worked for each other to earn the result, which ensures they will top Pool 3 in the B&I Cup.

He added: “Defensively tonight we were exceptional and heroic and it showed how much this group care for Worcester and if we can display that at the weekend we’ll be in a good place.

“There were outstanding performances across the park. The back-row put a lot of work in and Ravai Fatiaki had some huge collisions in midfield but overall you saw a team that wanted to work for each other and cared about getting the result.”
