Pennell to start for England Saxons

Chris Pennell has been named at full-back for England Saxons’ clash with Ireland Wolfhounds in Cork this Friday night (kick-off 7.45pm).

The Warriors man will line-up next to players such as Chris Ashton and Marland Yarde as they look to impress ahead of next month's RBS Six Nations.

Former Warriors Matt Mullan and Matt Kvesic are also named in the starting line-up for the clash which is live on Sky Sports.

England Saxons Head Coach Jon Callard said: “The game against the Wolfhounds will be a tough match but the group are excited about it and the opportunity to put on an England shirt.

“The team is one of the strongest Saxons sides selected and every player knows the importance of this match with the potential of claiming a spot in the senior squad for the RBS Six Nations campaign and the World Cup later in the year.”

The last time the two sides met on Irish soil in 2013, the Saxons beat the Wolfhounds 14-10 in Galway but last season’s fixture saw the Saxons narrowly lose 14-8 at Kingsholm, Gloucester.
