Warriors duo help England Sevens to Wellington final

Warriors pair James Stephenson and Richard de Carpentier helped England Sevens to the final of the Wellington leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series last weekend, but couldn’t prevent the holders New Zealand from winning the tournament yet again.

In their first game of the tournament England faced the All Blacks in the pool stages where they were beaten 24-5 before going on to beat Canada 27-5 and Papua New Guinea 29-0.

They then ousted Fiji 26-21 in the quarter-finals and Scotland 24-19 in the last four.

But when presented with an opportunity to gain revenge over the hosts in the final, they couldn't quite match them and were eventually thwarted 27-21.

The next leg of the series heads to Las Vegas in the USA next weekend (Feb 13-15).

England Sevens results in Wellington:
England 5-24 New Zealand
England 27-5 Canada
England 29-0 Papua New Guinea
Fiji 21-26 England
Scotland 19-24 England
New Zealand 27-21 England
