Sixways hosts perfect match for Acorns

Children’s charity Acorns is celebrating after joining forces with Worcester Warriors to raise over £8,000.

The Worcester Warriors Charity Matchday, held on Valentine’s Day, raised £8,064.73 for Acorns Children’s Hospice and its vital work caring for life-limited and life-threatened children and young people and their families.

The day featured a host of fundraising activities as Warriors ran out eventual winners 47-10, with money raised through charity ticket sales, bucket collections and the sale of Matchday shirts.

Worcester-based designers Beard were also on hand to create a piece of art for the day which was then auctioned off for the charity.

Louise Arnold, head of social responsibility development at Acorns, said: “Acorns has developed a strong partnership with Warriors and the fans over the years so it was great to celebrate this at the Charity Matchday.

“We rely on the local community to help fund our work which currently costs over £8 million per year, so we’re delighted that everyone got behind us on the day.”

Warriors took to the field wearing limited-edition pink Matchday shirts designed by children at Acorns for the Three Counties hospice based in Bath Road, Worcester.

The shirts, which quickly sold out, were available to purchase from the Sixways store, with profits from sales donated to Acorns.

Louise added: “We’re really grateful to Warriors, the fans and everyone involved who helped make the Charity Matchday such a big success.

“The money raised will be a big boost for the children and their families who rely so much on the care and support Acorns provides.”
