Academy players star in England victory

Warriors Academy players Ted Hill and Nick David both got themselves on the scoresheet as England Under 16s defeated Wales 34-0 in Caerphilly on Sunday.

Fellow Warriors duo Beck Cutting and James Scott also impressed throughout the match as six tries and two conversions gave the young English side an impressive final tally with their opposition unable to get on the board.

Commenting on the victory England Under 16 Head Coach Stephen Shortland said: “The Welsh were very strong, so the score line probably isn’t reflective of the full 80 minutes.

“Up until half-time, they were on the front foot but we really stepped things up in the second-half and pulled away in the final 20.

“It was a real team effort with the forwards and backs combining in open play, and scoring some fantastic tries.

“The decisions between those who had a starting spot and those on the bench were very marginal, so we saw a real impact with players coming on. We powered on even more with their contribution.

“The players have developed in so many facets over the past few months and have been outstanding.

“It was the last weekend of this programme and I wanted them to really focus on those marginal gains that make them better players, and continue to build on their self-belief and confidence. I’m incredibly pleased with what I saw.”

Warriors Assistant Academy Manager Chim Gale said: “It’s fantastic to see these four lads receiving recognition for their hard work this year.

“The game will have been extremely beneficial for their development and Ted and Nick will both be over the moon with their tries.”
